Hensol Castle lake pontoon - Carri & Dan just having a little lay down!

Arriving at Carri & Dan’s wedding venue, in Pontyclun, feels like stepping into a fairytale. A long sweeping drive leads to Hensol Castle. It's a symmetrical 17th century, gothic beauty.

You may think that the bride would arrive by horse and carriage, or at least Rolls Royce, to match the magical scene.

Think again.

Instead, it's Carri’s first car, that pulls up. A bright red vintage Mini, painstakingly restored by her father for this very occasion. It's quite the vision to behold. A gaggle of legs bent up towards chins, bouquet in the back, wide grins across their faces; it all just makes sense.

Bridal prep at their home in Cardiff was filled to the brim with laughter, giggles and so many jokes that we just knew that it was going to be a fun wedding. And it certainly didn’t disappoint. Once in her simple, yet timeless gown from All About Eve Bridal, Carri made her way in to her awaiting bridesmaid and parents, who, all on cue, shed an abundance of tears. All except for one Bridesmaid, Emma, who transformed sentimental tears into hysterical laughter with the defensive comment “I’m crying on the inside.”

The wedding breakfast decor was kept simple but elegant with a flourishing floral display across the top table and each guest table with a different array of flowers or ferns, all in the summer blush colours of the season. Urban Flower Studio supplied all of the flowers. Even the marbleised, white and golden cakes were topped with a matching look from The Vale Cake Boutique

Guests were entertained with an acoustic singer, lawn games, hula-hooping contests and a traditional ice cream truck serving up all kinds of treats. As if that wasn't enough, or a quiet moment of reflection was needed, guests could explore the vast grounds including the walled gardens and accompanying lake. Enthusiasts of architecture might have even decided to gaze upon the battlements.

This wedding never dipped, the momentum built and built into the most spectacular crescendo during Carri & Dan’s first dance. From all four corners of the dance-floor, giant confetti cannons erupted.  From this moment, with Brohemian Festival Wedding Band playing, the party did not stop. The dance-floor was FULL, complete with arms reaching into the air with flashing multi coloured bands on the arms of every guest!

It went a little something like this....

Amy and Jess, you pair of talented humans!!
You have been incredible from begin to end. The quality of your work needs no review to justify it. Your beautiful photos captured all the fun, love and laughter...oh and the many tears. The video from the day is amazing and beautifully edited.
Your relaxed and calm approach to everything was greatly appreciated. You honestly felt like guests! I quote “weird guests that made us lay down”. A million thank yous to you both! We can not recommend you both enough!! When can we do it again?”

Pre-wedding photography from their sunset shoot at Rhossili in Gower.

Why did you pick Flashbulb to film & photograph your day? : We loved their relaxed approach. Their photos weren’t over edited, or had crazy filters. The wedding videos were beautifully edited.
Amy and Jess are two lovely, fun and talented people. They were very supportive in giving us any direction or reassurance needed throughout the build up and the wedding day. We can not recommend them highly enough!

What made you choose that Hensol Castle? We got married at Hensol castle. I (carri) loved the idea of getting married in a castle. It was the perfect venue for us. Having the castle as a wedding back drop was amazing.
The staff are so professional and we had an amazing wedding coordinator, Laura.

What vibe/theme did you go for?: Coldplay “Head full of dreams” tour was our theme. We wanted bright colours and a fun party atmosphere in the nights. We had light up wristbands for everyone, brightly coloured confetti, big balloons etc. We saw the tour twice and it holds very special memories for us both.

How did you meet?: We first got to know each other about 8/9 years ago due to Dan’s best friend Simon living with Carri’s best friend (sam, the non crying bridesmaid) in England. Jump forward 18 months to February 2014, Sam’s 30th birthday party and a young and keen Dan slid into my DMs. After playing hard to get, he won me over with his welsh charm.
A year and a half of long distance before we took the plunge and moved in together. Within 10 months we bought our first home. And in October 2017 Dan decided was a keeper and proposed in Las Vegas.

What happens next as newlyweds? : We went on our honeymoon 2 days after the wedding and spent 10 perfect days on the beautiful Mauritius. The people, food, scenery was amazing!
We hope our married life brings us lots more adventures to new places together. We love being a family of 2, but who knows why the future will bring.
Dan is missing wedding planning more than me. He loved it! We enjoy helping friends out with their weddings now, which I find is much cheaper than planning your own.
The immediate future holds much post wedding admin for Carri. Changing your last name takes longer than you think!
