Wedding Photos + Videography, Old House Maesteg, South Wales
Creative and fun wedding photography and videography at The Old House Maesteg.
Katie and Matthew chose Old House 1147 for their spring wedding in South Wales. The oldest pub in Wales, this gorgeous venue is the perfect blend of old and new with a thatched roof on one side and a beautiful glass fronted modern building on the other. So, we had fantastic light and magnificent views of Nant Y Gadlys valley to work with. So we had an endless supply of beautiful backdrops in our photos and film.
This was our third wedding for this family with a fourth coming in the next couple of weeks, so we’re starting to feel like part of the furniture. A lot of our bookings come through family recommendations. It means that everybody gets so used to us photographing and filming them that they hardly notice we’re there!
Is that a celebrity we see?
Before we get into the day, we will address the elephant in the room, yes, the mother of the bride is Amanda, a.k.a Mama Dragon, from the ITV series The Traitors. But today is ALL about the bride and groom, Katie and Matthew.

On the day we woke to grey skies and the odd shower, and headed over to Old House 1147 to catch up with Katie and her bridal party so we could get those all-important bridal prep images. The party had definitely already started with everybody in high spirits.
The girls had thought of everything with breakfast, coordinated robes and of course a bit of fizz to get the celebrations started. We found Katie in the capable hands of award-winning make-up artist Charmaine Gorwill.
We also caught up with Matthew and his grooms party who were getting ready in another of Old House 1147’s suites. The boys were really chilled out and looked very smart in traditional black-tie suits from Hanson. They were even enjoying a cheeky beer before proceedings.
We then shot back to the girls who were now nearly ready. Katie looked stunning in a fitted lace dress with a sweetheart neckline and a sculpted shape that kicked out at the bottom into a train giving Katie the most amazing silhouette in all of our images and film. She bought it at Allison Jayne Bridal. Katie’s bridesmaids, flower girls and mum Amanda all looked amazing in sage green dresses. Before the ceremony we captured a very sweet father seeing the bride moment.
The wedding ceremony was beautiful with the venue dressed with white flowers with natural green foliage and candles by the clever team at Simply Elegant Weddings and Events. Those ceiling to floor windows giving us plenty of natural light to play with to create even more beautiful images and film.

Everybody then enjoyed an elegant drinks and canapes reception and we took the chance to get some great images of the wedding party, as well as some candid images of guests mingling, chatting and enjoying themselves. With guests happily catered for, we whisked Katie and Matthew away for a few minutes for a mini photoshoot. And despite the weather being cloudy and overcast, we got some really romantic images.
In fact, we worked with the unsettled weather and made the most of the moody skies to create some dramatic portrait images of Katie and Matthew. Although, as soon as a drop of rain was felt, Katie was doing a runner!
We then rejoined Katie and Matthew’s guests in time for their reception which looked so elegant with wooden tables dressed with flowers and candles creating an stylish yet rustic look. Guests were seated first so that Katie and Matthew could receive a rapturous welcome as they entered the room.
There followed a delicious wedding breakfast prepared by Old House 1147’s in-house chefs followed by some very well received speeches delivered by Katie’s Dad, Matthew’s mum and the best man. Afterwards, Matthew and his grooms party all posed for a fun photo all smoking cigars. It was our favourite image of the day, and made us laugh because none of them actually smoke! But it was worth pretending just to get such a cool image.
By this time the sun was starting to set, so we borrowed Katie and Matthew for a couple of minutes to get some golden hour pre-sunset images of the two of them walking through the quaint little village the Old House is set in.
Evening celebrations started with the cutting of a gorgeous three-tiered wedding cake made by Cakesicle Creations, followed by a first dance for Katie and Matthew. Not that they were alone on the dancefloor for long. Their guests were really up for a party and live band Fonz and the Poet were there to make sure they got one.
A wonderfully fun and family-friendly wedding for a really sweet couple at a simply stunning South Wales wedding venue. Congratulations to Katie and Matthew for getting married and thank you for allowing us to tell the story of it. We loved it!
