Creative and Fun Wedding Photography & Videography at The Old House 1147, Maesteg

Katie and Matthew chose the beautiful Old House 1147 for their spring wedding in South Wales—and what a location! Set in the heart of Maesteg, this one-of-a-kind venue combines the charm of Wales’ oldest pub with the sleek modern edge of a glass-fronted extension overlooking the Nant Y Gadlys valley. As wedding photographers and videographers in South Wales, we couldn’t have asked for a better setting.

We’ve been lucky enough to shoot three weddings for this brilliant family (and another coming up soon!), so by now, we’re basically part of the furniture. It’s always lovely when bookings come from word of mouth—it means everyone’s so relaxed around us that we can get those natural, candid moments we love.

Yes, That Is Mama Dragon

Let’s just get it out there—yes, Katie’s mum is Amanda from The Traitors! But despite having a celeb in the bridal party, this day was all about the newlyweds, Katie and Matthew.

Wedding Photography at Old House 1147 in Maesteg

We kicked things off on a grey, slightly drizzly morning—but no complaints from us. That moody spring light gave us so much to work with, and the glass-fronted side of the venue meant there was loads of natural light indoors too.

We joined Katie and her bridal party in one of Old House 1147’s suites for prep. The girls were in great spirits, fizz flowing, robes matching, and Katie being glammed up by award-winning makeup artist Charmaine Gorwill. Meanwhile, Matthew and his groomsmen were suiting up (and sneaking a pre-ceremony beer) in traditional black tie from Hanson.

Katie’s dress from Allison Jayne Bridal was absolute perfection—figure-hugging lace with a sweetheart neckline and a dramatic train. Her bridesmaids and flower girls wore elegant sage green, and the whole prep room was buzzing with excitement. One of our favourite moments? A very emotional first look with Katie’s dad just before the ceremony.

A Beautiful Ceremony & Reception at Old House 1147

The ceremony space at Old House 1147 was dressed to perfection by Simply Elegant Weddings and Events, with white florals, lush greenery and candles adding a modern, romantic feel. Those floor-to-ceiling windows made the whole space glow, giving us dreamy light for both photo and film. Perfect for any South Wales wedding videographer.

Post-ceremony, guests were treated to canapés and drinks while we grabbed some relaxed group shots and a few candid moments of the party in full swing. Then we whisked Katie and Matthew away for a wander—overcast skies gave us soft, cinematic light and dramatic portraits (until the rain threatened and Katie legged it!).

The reception was equally gorgeous. Long wooden tables with candles and florals created a rustic-meets-modern vibe, and Katie and Matthew got a hero’s welcome as they entered the room. Speeches were heartfelt and funny, with a great mix from Katie’s dad, Matthew’s mum and the best man. One of our favourite images from the day? The groom and groomsmen posing with cigars—none of them actually smoke, but it was worth it for the aesthetic!

Golden Hour, Cake & A Packed Dancefloor

Just as the sun dipped behind the hills, we slipped away for a few golden hour portraits through the charming little village surrounding the venue. Then it was back for cake cutting—an epic three-tiered beauty by Cakesicle Creations—and straight into the first dance.

Live band Fonz and the Poet made sure the dancefloor didn’t stay empty for long. Everyone was up for a proper party, and we got some cracking shots of guests letting loose.

A wonderfully fun and family-friendly wedding for a really sweet couple at a simply stunning South Wales wedding venue.  Congratulations to Katie and Matthew for getting married and thank you for allowing us to tell the story of it.  We loved it!

We’ll leave the last words to Katie and Matthew.  Here’s what they had to say about us.
