Oxwich bay hotel wedding photography and wedding videography in Swansea - Tamara & Will
Swansea wedding photographer - Tamara and Will, A Royal Marine wedding videography blog with adventures into the Oxwich bay sand dunes.
One of the best things about being creative South Wales wedding photographers and videographers, is getting to meet and work for lovely couples like Tamara and Will. We first met these two when we captured their pre wedding shoot at Cwm Ivy Woods, they were lots of fun and were up for anything, so we knew their wedding was going to be a fun one!
Tamara and Will chose Oxwich Bay Hotel as the venue for their summer wedding in Swansea. This beach front hotel in the Gower Peninsula was perfect for this outdoorsy couple. And it’s a real favourite with all Swansea wedding photographers because of the magnificent views that make an amazing backdrop in wedding photos.
On the day, we woke to glorious sunshine (that lasted all day long!) and headed for Tamara and Will’s house to catch up with Tamara and her bridal party to get some morning of the wedding images and film.
On arrival we were delighted to meet all of their pets. We love it when we meet people who are as silly about animals as we are. Tamara and Will have a garden full of chickens, bird tables, and a fish pond. And their cat (Mr Jones), curiously followed us around as we got some great images and film. So much so we gave in and he got an image of his own!
The house and garden was also full of humans and the atmosphere was great. Everybody was just so chilled. Tamara is a self-proclaimed outdoorsy type, which was evident from her bridal prep as much of it happened outside. With make-upartist Jessie Dallimore setting her work station up in the garden.
We got some great images of the girls in their robes, with Tamara pulling an especially ‘cheek-y’ pose in a couple of them. We absolutely loved Tamara’s dress. She bought it at wed2b and it looked like it had been made for her. It had adeep plunging neckline, a beautifully laced bodice with a low scooped back and an empire line skirt that slightly trained out at the bottom. It perfectly suited Tamara’s slender frame and the unfussiness of it suited her temperament. It was complemented by hair elegantly braided back into a bun by hairstylist Amy Adamson.
Bridesmaids looked elegant in sage green dresses from Asos. We also want to give a shout out to Tamara’s lovely mum who looked beautiful in white. The bouquets of wild flowers mixed with green foliage looked so classy and were the handiwork of Bec at Bec Flowers.
It’s just as well Tamara looked stunning, as Will was setting the bar high by choosing to get married in his Royal Navy Woolen 1 uniform and looked very smart and handsome. Military Uniforms always looks great at weddings. Will’s groomsmen also looked smart in three piece suits with light grey jackets and waistcoats that they got from Gere Menswear.
The wedding ceremony was held in Oxwich Bay’s Chestnut Room. Formerly the courtyard of the old rectory building it has retained much of the original eighteenth century stonework. Which along with an original log burner set within the trunk of a horse chestnut tree, gives the room a wonderfully rustic and cosy vibe.
Tamara was walked down the aisle by her mum. The ceremony was conducted by celebrant Sara Tace Conde. It was really personal because Tamara and Will had chosen to write their own vows which were so beautifully written, that we used them as audio in the wedding film.
The ceremony was conducted in front of the chestnut tree trunk which made a great backdrop in our images. After a lovely ceremony Tamara and Will walked back down the aisle as husband and wife to applause from their guests.
Everybody then headed outside into the garden and the sunshine and there was a fun confetti moment that we captured perfectly. We then took the chance to get some great images of the wedding party in the ancient woodland. They started formal but it wasn’t long before shenanigans ensued and the images just go sillier. It was so fun!
We also got some great images of Tamara and Will, including our favourite one of the day which was of Tamara messing about with Will’s dress cap.
The wedding breakfast was held in Oxwich Bay’s chic and elegant Marquee. Set within its own secluded garden it has breathtaking panoramic views of the bay. Tables and chairs had been dressed elegantly and the floral arrangements on the tables looked amazing.
After the meal, with guests happily mingling and enjoying exclusive use of the marquee and gardens, we headed to the beach to do our couples photoshoot. Tamara and Will were always clear that they wanted to climb the highest sand dune at Oxwich for their pictures, and they didn’t let the fact that it was the hottest day of the year stop them. And Will demonstrated his tough credentials as a Royal Marine but making the climb in soaring temperatures in his heavy uniform. We’d have fainted, it was bad enough in our shorts! Though it was well worth the effort as the images we got were just gorgeous.
For the evening celebrations Will changed out of his uniform. The first dance was a mother daughter dance for Tamara and her mum. The second dance was for Tamara and Will. These guys were taking no chances with their evening party and booked popular band Live Encounter band who played well known pop and rock songs for Tamara, Will and their guests to dance and sing along to. And boy did they, Tamara and Will’s guests were really up for a party!
